Instant Breakfast - Fried Bread Idli

Well, you would call me an idli buff or a maniac to cook and eat idlis. But, this is most healthy food I have found that we can have for breakfast and it van be cooked at an instant. So, here I am with another recipe of Idli but with a difference as this time its made of Bread.

Yes, Bread! I know it would sound little absurd to you that an idli that too made of bread.  How is it possible? So, let us see.

Here are the ingredients:
  1. 1-2 bread slices (depends how much quantity of bread idli you need to make-upu can increase the slices if you need to make a large quantity)
  2. 2-3 tablespoons curd
  3. 1-2 tablespoon Rawa (This is optional as per your taste)
  4. Salt to taste
  5. Red Chilly powder
  6. 1-2 tablespoon water
Ingredients for tadka:
  1. 1 tablespoon oil (you can use olive oil)
  2. Mustard seeds
  3. 1-2 Red chilies
  4. Red chilly flakes
  5. Fresh herbs like basil and oregano (you can get these easily in the super market)
  6. 1 teaspoon urad dal
  7. Fresh curry leaves
  8. Fresh coriander
Method:
  1. Take the bread slices and crush them into pieces. Ensure that there are no large pieces left.
  2. Pour 1-2 tablespoon of curd and then pour 1-2 tablspoon water to make a batter. ensure that batter is smooth and there are no lumps. You can also pour 1-2 tablespoon rawa (or sooji) into the batter
  3. Add 1/2 teaspoon of red chilly powder (depends on how much spicy you need but we will anyways add the tadka)
  4. Add salt to taste and mix all the ingredients until you get a smooth batter
  5. Pour the batter into idli containers and put the container in the microwave for 3-4 mins (again the timing depends on the power of microwave over - mine is really high watt so I have put it for 3-4 mins only)
  6. After 3-4 mins, take out the container from the microwave and carefully take out the idlis using a knife
  7. Switch on the gas stove and take a pan
  8. When the pan is heated enough, pour 1 tablespoon oil and then add mustard seeds and leave it for a while.
  9. When the seeds start to crackle, add red chillies, urad dal, and curry leaves
  10. Now, add the bread idlis that you have prepared and add chilly flakes and herbs
  11. Put the gas on medium flame and let it cook for a while and then switch off the gas stove
  12. Transfer the fried idlis on a serving late and garnish it with fresh coriander. The fried idlis is ready to eat.
Tip:
You can also add few vegetables like capsicum (all three types like red, green and yellow) and onion. I like it this way so I prepared it without them.
