Food for thought: Homemade or Processed food – which one is better?



No doubt, homemade food will score 100 out of 100 in terms of its nutritious value. Though, processed food have a longer shelf life because of the preservatives used and they taste as much as good as the homemade foods. 




However, homemade food is very much recommended by most of the health experts as they are healthier than the processed counterparts. This is just for a simple reason as they LACK preservatives. And, this reason holds key for all the homemade food products though they have a shorter shelf life.


But still, homemade foods really ROCK!


Before, we go a little deeper as to which one is better, let us first understand the basic difference between the two. Processed food are those foods that consists of various additives and preservatives or other chemical components where the main purpose is to provide a longer shelf life to any food item. However, homemade food are those that are free from any additives and preservatives and that consists of natural flavor. The main purpose of homemade food products is to maintain the natural flavor of any vegetable or fruit thus making it safe and healthier to be consumed. Many health experts believe that usage of processed food should be minimized as the preservatives may pose a serious health issue if they are consumed regularly. Due to urbanization, there has been an increase in intake and demand for processed and ready-to-eat food. This is also due to change in the lifestyle particularly in the urban regions. Most of the consumers today look for the food that require less time for preparation than the traditional homemade food.

“It takes a bit of time”

Making homemade food do take a bit of time as it’s not a kind of thing that can be prepared in a fraction of second. But, as there is an old proverb that all good things require a lot of hard work and patience.


“It is a lot tastier and healthy”

Homemade food tastes well and are healthy as well as they retain the natural flavor of the fruits and vegetables.
